KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Veteran journalist and former president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Homnath Dahal, passed away last night at the age of 84.
According to family sources, Dahal suffered a heart attack and died during treatment at Bir Hospital. He had been unwell for some time due to knee-related health complications and was receiving treatment at his residence in Maitidevi, Kathmandu.

A native of Okhaldhunga district, Dahal was a former lawmaker and had served as Minister for Agriculture, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation.
Dahal was the editor of Rastrapukar Weekly, the mouthpiece of the Nepali Congress. During the Panchayat era, he actively struggled for press freedom and was jailed several times in the course of that movement.
His mortal remains will be kept at his private residence near the Dhobikhola corridor in Maitidevi from 7 am to 9 AM today for final tributes.
His last rites will be performed later today at Pashupati Aryaghat. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
