JHAPA, Feb 3: Police have arrested a 26-year-old woman with brown sugar at Chandragadhi Airport in Jhapa while she was preparing to fly to Kathmandu.
According to police, Roshni Budha of Kharpunath Rural Municipality–2 in Humla was apprehended on Monday afternoon while undergoing a security check at the airport. She was scheduled to travel to Kathmandu on Yeti Airlines flight number 926.
Police personnel deployed at airport security recovered 144.4 grams of brown sugar concealed in the pockets of her trousers during the check, said Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, information officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa.
Nine arrested with ‘brown sugar’
Budha had been working as a waiter at a Japanese restaurant in Kolkata, India, for the past two years, police said.
She is currently in police custody for further investigation. Based on her statement, police have also arrested two other individuals in Kathmandu in connection with the drug trafficking network.
A team from the Narcotics Control Bureau arrested Santosh Banjara, 30, of Panchpokhari Rural Municipality–6, Sindhupalchok, and Thormas Tamang, 21, of Doramba Rural Municipality–5, Ramechhap, on charges of involvement in the same drug trafficking case.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing, police said.
