KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Police have revealed that the murder of Sumitra Devi and her son Rameshwar Mandal in Parwanipur, Bara, was planned by Rameshwar’s wife, Manita Devi.
According to preliminary investigation, 23-year-old Manita had orchestrated the killings of her mother-in-law Sumitra and husband Rameshwar, the police said.
Bara police have arrested Manita along with a young man, identified as her former boyfriend. Investigations revealed that the man, working in Dubai, had come to Nepal with the plan to kill Manita’s husband and mother-in-law.

The suspect arrived in Kathmandu from Dubai on January 26 and reached Bara the same day, police said. Authorities are investigating whether Manita and the man hired a “contract killer” by paying a ‘supari’ (contract) or whether the man carried out the murders himself.
An investigating officer said that Manita’s boyfriend is suspected to have arranged for a contract killer to execute the plan.
Sumitra Devi, 46, and her son Rameshwar Mandal, 28, were stabbed to death inside their home last night in Parwanipur-1, police said.
Rameshwar’s father, 50-year-old Jagarup Mandal, and sister, 20-year-old Rina Kumari Mandal, were injured and are receiving treatment at LS Neuro Hospital locally.
Bara Police Chief SP Narendra Kunwar said the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are also intensifying investigation into another individual suspected of fleeing to India in connection with the killings.
Police said Manita’s lover sustained minor injuries, and Manita herself is also slightly injured.
