KATHMANDU, April 21: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) seeking the suspension of Rabi Lamichhane from his position as a member of parliament.
The petition argues that Lamichhane, who is facing charges related to cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering, should be barred from performing his duties as a Member of Parliament until the final verdict of the cases.
According to SC Spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the petition has been received but has not yet been formally registered. He said the application is currently under review and will be registered after completing the required procedures.

The writ, filed by advocate Ayush Badal, has named the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the Speaker, the Office of the Attorney General, the Home Ministry, and Lamichhane himself as defendants.
The petitioner has sought a mandamus order directing the Parliament Secretariat to suspend Lamichhane until the cases against him are resolved.
Lamichhane is currently under investigation and facing trial in multiple cooperative fraud cases in Kaski, Rupandehi, and Kathmandu.
