KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Rajendra Kumar Rai said that social entrepreneurship is necessary for job creation and prosperity in the country.
Inaugurating the National Social Entrepreneurship Conference in the capital, Minister Rai expressed commitment among entrepreneurs and social campaigners that he would take initiatives to formulate laws and policies necessary to promote social entrepreneurship in the country.
'We want to start a movement of social entrepreneurship'
The three-day National Social Entrepreneurship Symposium 2079 BS, organized by the National Social Entrepreneurs Forum, which started on February 15, concluded on Sunday in Kathmandu with the slogan 'Let's establish a social entrepreneurship friendly system for the people, the earth and prosperity'.
During the closing ceremony, former minister and leader of CPN-UML Parbat Gurung, central member of Nepali Congress Nain Singh Mahar, member of National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr Sangita Singh, president of Non-Governmental Organizations Federation of Nepal Ram Prasad Subedi, president of International Non-Governmental Association Bhagwan Shrestha and social entrepreneurs talked about the importance of social entrepreneurship.
The event was presided over by Arjun Bhattarai, coordinator of Social Entrepreneurs Forum. The main objectives of the conference were to discuss the current state of social entrepreneurship, policy and legal challenges and decide the strategy for the future, to increase awareness about social entrepreneurship, and to increase cooperation for promoting social entrepreneurship.
