A cabinet meeting held on September 25 had authorized the Director-General of the Department of Information and Broadcasting to act as the local authority for registering online media under the Printing and Publication Act, 2048 BS. Following this, Minister for Communication, Information and Technology Jagdish Kharel clarified that the Director-General would oversee online media registration.

Previously, under the government led by KP Sharma Oli, the Department of Information and Broadcasting had suspended registration and renewal of online media on Aug 6.

The current government has reinstated the authority to register and renew online media under the Department of Information and Broadcasting and simultaneously set the applicable fees. This decision aligns with the provisions of the Printing and Publication Act, 2048 BS, ensuring a standardized process for online media registration and renewal.
