Sub-engineer murder sparks court staff protest, police scramble for leads

In protest, employees of the Sarlahi District Court have suspended services, demanding a swift and impartial investigation and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.

JANAKPURDHAM, Feb 16: Police are still searching for leads in the shocking murder of a sub-engineer in Malangwa, Sarlahi, on Sunday evening.



In protest, employees of the Sarlahi District Court have suspended services, demanding a swift and impartial investigation and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.


Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saroj Rai, spokesperson for the District Police Office (DPO), Sarlahi, said authorities are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the attackers. “We are conducting a thorough investigation from multiple angles and will bring the suspects within the ambit of the law soon,” he assured.

The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Pramod Kumar Yadav, a resident of Baishakhagaun, Sukhipur Municipality-6, Siraha. He had been staying in a rented room at the house of Durganand Yadav in Devitol, Malangwa Municipality-10. According to reports, unidentified assailants on a motorcycle called him outside and shot him in the left chest.


Yadav, a sub-engineer at the Infrastructure Development Office in Malangwa, was rushed to the Provincial Hospital but was pronounced dead around 8:30 PM, DSP Rai confirmed.


The attack occurred about two kilometers north of the DPO. Security has been tightened across Malangwa, with increased police presence at checkpoints and in areas deemed suspicious.


Madhesh Province Minister for Physical Infrastructure Rajkumar Gupta said he has instructed DIG Govinda Thapaliya to intensify the investigation. Calling the killing “extremely tragic,” Gupta said the incident has caused fear among locals, even amid heightened security ahead of the elections.


Shiv Shankar Yadav, a candidate from Siraha-2, expressed deep sorrow over the murder and urged authorities to apprehend the culprits, bring them to justice, and provide relief to the bereaved family.
