Voter count rises by 5.65 percent ahead of upcoming election

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: The number of registered voters has increased by 5.65 percent compared to the previous election, the Election Commission said on Sunday.



Election Commission (EC) Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the voter roll has grown since the 2022 election. Presenting data at an all-party meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, Bhattarai confirmed the rise in voter numbers.

According to the EC, the total number of voters has reached 19,005,324. During the 2079 BS House of Representatives (HoR) election, the voter count stood at 17,988,570.


This means an additional 1,016,754 voters have been added to the electoral roll. More than one million of these newly registered voters will be casting their ballots for the first time in the HoR election scheduled for March 5.
