JHAPA, Nov 16: A total of 17 people have lost their lives in road accidents in Jhapa over the past four months, according to the District Traffic Police Office, Jhapa.
Traffic Police Chief Inspector Santosh Rai said that from the beginning of the current Fiscal Year (FY) in Shrawan (mid-July) until Kartik 29 (November 15), a total of 17 fatalities were recorded in road crashes across the district. During the same period, 29 people sustained serious injuries, while 670 others suffered minor injuries.

Inspector Rai reported that the highest number of deaths occurred in Asoj, with six fatalities. Three deaths were recorded in Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August), four in Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September), and another four in Kartik (mid-September to mid-October). Most of the incidents involved two-wheelers, the office stated.
A total of 345 accidents were reported during the four-month period, involving 488 vehicles. Among them, 326 were two-wheelers, 93 four-wheelers, 34 medium-sized vehicles, 32 heavy vehicles and three unidentified vehicles.
The Traffic Police Office took action against 6,105 vehicles for violating traffic rules. Of these, 2,564 were penalized in Shrawan, 1,927 in Bhadra, 271 in Asoj, and 1,343 in Kartik. The office collected revenue amounting to Rs 5,981,533 from these violations.
