KATHMANDU, March 13: The Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, has repatriated 21 Nepali nationals rescued from scam centers in Cambodia, according to the embassy.
The embassy said the individuals were sent back to Nepal on Friday with the support of the Cambodian government and facilitation from the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Cambodia.
In a statement issued on Friday, the embassy said efforts are ongoing to repatriate other Nepalis who are stranded or facing difficult circumstances in Cambodia.
Those rescued had reportedly traveled to Cambodia after being lured by various individuals through different channels. Once there, they were forced to work in illegally operated online scam centers, casinos, and other illicit activities.

The embassy noted that several Nepali citizens in Cambodia have been involved in online fraud or are staying without visas or beyond their visa validity.
It has urged Nepalis residing illegally in Cambodia to contact the embassy through the telephone numbers +85512215578, +85593203666, and +855963465788 as soon as possible.
According to the embassy, many victims have complained that their passports were confiscated by companies or lost when they were transferred between scam centers. In such cases, the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok has been issuing free one-way travel documents to facilitate their return to Nepal.
The embassy also warned that human traffickers have been luring a large number of Nepalis to Cambodia with promises of lucrative jobs.
Tourism data from Cambodia show a sharp rise in the number of Nepalis entering the country on tourist visas: 101 in 2021, 1,977 in 2022, and 2,940 in 2023. The number increased to 6,404 in 2024 and 9,676 in 2025.
The embassy has urged Nepalis to seek labor approval as per the standards set by the Government of Nepal before going abroad for employment.
It also cautioned people not to travel to countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand for foreign employment under the pretext of tourism in pursuit of quick financial gains.
Earlier this week, the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok had repatriated 16 Nepalis from Cambodia on Thursday and three others on Wednesday after rescuing them from illegal online scam centers.
