KATHMANDU, Oct 30: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption charge sheet at the Special Court, Kathmandu, against Senior Accounts Officer Tank Bahadur Karki of Dungeshwor Rural Municipality, Dailekh.
According to the CIAA, Karki demanded a bribe of Rs 100,000 from a service recipient while processing the final bill payment for a road upgrading and construction project. The case has been filed under the Corruption Prevention Act, 2059 BS, seeking appropriate action against him.
CIAA files corruption charges against 13 in a single day
The anti-graft body found that Karki solicited the bribe under the pretext of facilitating and expediting the final payment process for the Jarsichok–Deuli–Jadi road upgrading project, which covers wards 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of Dungeshwor Rural Municipality.
A joint team deployed from the CIAA’s central office in Tangal and the Surkhet office caught Karki in the act of receiving the Rs 100,000 bribe.
Following the investigation, the CIAA has charged him under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 BS, requesting fines equal to the amount involved and imprisonment. CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Paudel confirmed that the charge sheet was submitted to the Special Court, Kathmandu, on Thursday.
