EC begins verification as parties submit their PR lawmakers list

The Rastriya Swatantra Party, which secured the highest number of valid votes, has submitted a list of 57 lawmakers in line with the cluster requirements.

KATHMANDU, March 15: The Election Commission (EC) has begun the verification process of the names of 110 lawmakers nominated under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system by six political parties that crossed the three percent threshold in the House of Representatives (HoR) election held on March 5.



A total of 11,280,617 votes were cast under the PR system in the election, of which 10,835,025 were deemed valid.


The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which secured the highest number of valid votes, has submitted a list of 57 lawmakers in line with the cluster requirements.


Similarly, the Nepali Congress has submitted a list of 20 candidates, the CPN-UML 16, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) nine, while the Shram Sanskriti Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have each submitted lists of four candidates.


Assistant Spokesperson of the EC Kul Bahadur GC said the EC has started verifying whether the lists submitted by the parties comply with cluster-based representation requirements.


According to GC, the EC will publish the final list of elected lawmakers as early as Monday if no errors are found in the submitted lists. However, if corrections are required, the process could take up to three days.


According to The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) spokesperson Manisha Jha, the secretariat meeting held Sunday approved the list comprising 48 women and 9 men.


The finalized list includes 17 from the Khas Arya group, 16 from Indigenous nationalities, 9 from Madhesi communities, 8 from Dalits, 4 from Tharu communities, and 3 from the Muslim community.

 Proposed PR lawmakers from RSP under Khas Arya category includes   Vidushi Rana,  Rachana Khatiwada,   Lima Adhikari, Samiksha Baskota,  Shraddha Kunwar, Tika Sangroula, Kranti Shikha Dhital,  Aakriti Awasthi, Srishti Bhattarai, Manju Bhusal, Prabha Karki, Shobha Khanal, Ratna Kumari Thapa, Gyanu Paudel,  Prabha Dhakal, Ramesh Prasai and Pratibha Rawal.


 Likewise, those proposed under indigenous nationalities (Adibasi Janajati) include Basumaya Tamang,  Ganga Chhantyal, Sunnima Udas, Anushka Shrestha, Ojaswi Sherchan, Sirjana Shrestha, Rajani Shrestha, Kusum Maharjan, Bhumika Shrestha, Pramila Kuluju, Sujata Tamang, Kripa Maharjan, Eliza Gurung, Ram Lama, Khushbu Sarkar Shrestha, and Mingma Gyabu Sherpa


Those under Madhesi group include Poonam Kumari Agrawal, Nisha Mehta,  Lalita Kumari,   Ankita Thakur,  Sarita Mahato,  Kamini Kumari, Purushottam Suprabhat Yadav, and Khagendra Karn.


 Others under the Dalit category include Reema Bishwakarma, Amrita BK, Sita Badi, Smriti Century,      Sushma Swarnakar, Tara Bishwakarma, Khima BK, and Prakash Chandra Pariyar.


Those under Tharu category include Geeta Chaudhary, Karisma Kathariya, Surendra Chaudhary, and Premlal Chaudhary.


Likewise, RSP candidates under Muslim quota include Samina Miya, Afsana Banu, and Galaja Shamim Mikrani.


NC Spokesperson Dev Raj Chalise informed that the political party through its central committee meeting held on Sunday selected 15 women candidates for proportional representation (PR). The NC has won 20 seats under the PR. The NC has its 18 candidates won in the direct election held on March 5. With the PR, the political party will have a total of 38 lawmakers to represent in the lower house.


The NC has proposed Arjun Narsingh KC, Kali Bahadur Sahakari, Sushila Dhakal Acharya, Rukmini Devi Koirala, Reena Upreti, Sita Thapaliya, and Ganga Shahi under Khas Arya category.


Those proposed  under Indigenous Nationalities (Adibasi Janajati) include Geeta Kumari Sendang, Ganga Laxmi Awal, Geeta Gurung, Renuka Kaucha, Bhishmaraj Angdembe, Madan Krishna Shrestha.


Likewise, NC’s Tharu candidates include Pramila Kumari Gachchhadar while the Dalit quota has  Harina Devi Kami , Pavitra BK and Manmaya Bishwakarma


Under the Madhesi quote, NC has proposed Ninu Kumari Karn, Rekha Kumari Yadav, and Chandra Mohan Yadav while the party’s Muslim candidate includes Shahjan Khatun.


 The CPN-UML has also finalized its proportional representation lawmakers. Party secretary Mahesh Basnet said the decision was made during a secretariat meeting held Saturday at the residence of party chair KP Sharma Oli in Gundu, Bhaktapur.


UML won only nine direct seats and received 13.46 percent of the proportional vote, giving it 16 seats under the PR system.


Proposed PR lawmakers from CPN-UML under Indigenous Nationalities / Janajati include Bhumika Subba, Gangadevi Shrestha, Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar, Kulbhakta Shakya.


Likewise, the party has proposed Padma Aryal, Tukabhadra Hamal under Khas Arya, Yashuda Kumari Baral (Backward Region) and Guru Prasad Baral as well as Pushparaj Kandel.


Other candidates are Kriparam Rana (Tharu), Bishnumaya BK (Dalit) and Nita Ghatani (Dalit), Sajida Siddiqui (Muslim).


Those under Madhesi quote include Ringla Yadav, Yashodha Kumari Yadav and Chandreshwar Mandal


Proposed PR lawmakers from NCP include Pramesh Hamal (Khas Arya), Parshuram Tamang and Bhim Kumari Budha (Indigenous Nationalities), Prem Bayak (Person with disability), Balawati Sharma (Women), Jog Kumar Barbaria Yadav (Madhes), Parvati BK (Dalit) and Ganesh Bishwakarma (Dalit) and Nirasha Chaudhary Dagaura (Tharu).


The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has recommended four people for the House of Representatives (HoR) Member under the proportional representation electoral system.


Party spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha said that the meeting of the party's central executive committee recommended Bharat Giri (Khas Arya male) from Mahottari, Tahir Ali (Muslim male) from Rupandehi, Khusbu Oli (Khas Arya female) from Jhapa, and Saraswati Lama (Indigenous female) from Dhading as the HoR members.
