RUPANDEHI, June 20: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel has said that the Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) will come into operation.

He, however, dismissed rumours that the airport’s operation had been stalled due to political or diplomatic reasons.

The minister said policy gaps were the main reason behind the delay, adding that groundwork was underway to address them.

“There is a system in place where work permits can be accessed from home. You do not need to go to Kathmandu for this now,” he said.

He also stressed the need for promotional programmes to attract tourists, noting that Nepal should not rely solely on sending workers abroad and bringing remittances back home.

Minister Paudel also reiterated the government’s long-term plan to construct Nijgadh International Airport in the future.
