KATHMANDU, April 20: GenZ Red Force Nepal has called for the resignation of Home Minister Sudan Gurung, stating that no one has the right to undermine public trust.

In a statement issued on Monday, the group urged Gurung to step down on moral grounds and facilitate an impartial investigation into the allegations against him. It argued that the public had voted for him and his party with expectations of good governance and an end to corruption, but recent developments have significantly weakened that trust.

The group also criticized Gurung’s actions since entering politics through the GenZ movement, alleging that he carried out arrests without sufficient understanding of legal and constitutional procedures. It claimed that many individuals detained under his tenure have already been released, raising questions about the effectiveness and legitimacy of those actions.

In its statement, the organization further accused the minister of contradicting his earlier commitments, including pledges not to join a political party or assume ministerial office. It alleged that instead of fulfilling the movement’s demands, Gurung aligned with a political party to contest elections and eventually became home minister.

The group also referred to ongoing controversy over Gurung’s share investments, claiming that his alleged association with a controversial business figure and failure to disclose shares worth around Rs 2.5 million in his asset declaration raise serious concerns.

Calling the situation “deeply ironic,” the group said Gurung’s public stance on integrity and governance does not align with his alleged actions. It warned that further scrutiny could reveal additional irregularities.

“Take moral responsibility and resign immediately to allow a fair investigation,” the statement said, adding, “No one has the right to play with the trust of the people.”
