Home Ministry forms probe committee to investigate Bardiya incident

The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a committee chaired by Under Secretary Suresh Panthi to investigate the reported suicide of a young woman in Bardiya allegedly over denial of her citizenship.

KATHMANDU, Dec 7: The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed an investigation committee to ascertain the facts surrounding the reported suicide of a young woman in Bardiya’s Badhiatal-4, allegedly driven by the denial of her citizenship.



The committee will be chaired by Under Secretary Suresh Panthi, head of the Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the ministry.

Following nationwide concern over the incident, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal said the ministry is taking the matter very seriously. On Sunday, a secretary-level decision was made to constitute the committee, which will also include UnderUnder Secretary Kul Shekhar Aryal and one other member.


The committee has been instructed to conduct an impartial and factual investigation and submit its report within five days. Prime Minister Sushila Karki had also directed Home Minister Aryal to ensure a thorough inquiry into the incident.
