KATHMANDU, April 5: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has resumed enlisting farmers after a five-month gap.
After being enlisted, farmers are provided with various services and subsidies along with identity cards. Chemical fertilizers, seeds, subsidies, service management, and benefits are provided to the listed farmers, said Mahananda Joshi, Information Officer of the Ministry.
The system has been coordinated with local levels across the country to identify real farmers and collect and record integrated data, including the area of land cultivated by the farmers, the produce produced, and other details.
Over 1.8 million farmers enlisted in Farmers Enlisting Program
The ministry reports that, according to the Agricultural Census of 2078, 2.3 million out of 4.1 million farmers have registered so far.
The Agriculture, Information, and Training Center, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, has urged farmers to register their names at the relevant local level.
The farmers have been classified into four categories based on their land details, income status, farm production, subsistence farmers, small farmers, medium farmers, and large farmers, said Sanjeev Pandit, an officer at the center.
