KATHMANDU, Sept 4: The monsoon trough has shifted south of its usual position, raising the chances of widespread rainfall, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).
This afternoon, skies across the country will stay mostly cloudy. Moderate rainfall is expected in several areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, particularly in the hilly regions, with light to moderate showers likely in parts of the Terai. Strong, gusty winds may also hit some locations in Madhesh Province and the Terai belt of Lumbini.

By nightfall, the weather will remain cloudy in Koshi, Madhesh, and most hilly regions, while other parts of the country may see partly cloudy skies. MFD forecasts moderate rainfall in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, along with scattered showers elsewhere.
The division has also cautioned of possible heavy downpours at one or two spots in the hilly belts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, urging residents to stay alert for weather-related risks.
