KATHMANDU, Aug 7: More than 10,000 refugees from three countries are currently living in Nepal, according to data released by Nepal Police.
Police made the figures public after misleading comments and discussions about refugees began circulating on social media. The refugees are from Bhutan, Tibet and Myanmar, with Bhutanese nationals making up the largest group.
Bhutanese refugees deserve to go home
Police spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle said 6,272 Bhutanese refugees are currently living in Nepal.
Similarly, Nepal hosts 3,527 Tibetan refugees and 527 Rohingya refugees, according to police data.
Of the Rohingya refugees, 364 are women and 162 are men. The group includes 216 children, Kafle said.
According to police, Rohingya refugees in Nepal are living in Kapan, Lasuntar, Ram Mandir, Lubhu and Sunkothi areas of Kathmandu.
