KATHMANDU, May 22: Nepal imported goods worth around Rs 1.6 trillion during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, with diesel and crude soybean oil emerging as the country’s top import items.
According to import data released by the Department of Customs, Nepal imported 1.144 million kilolitres of diesel worth Rs 130 billion during the review period.
Crude soybean oil ranked second, with imports reaching 655.6 million litres worth Rs 106 billion.

The country also imported 1.10 billion kilograms of sponge iron worth Rs 48 billion over the same period.
Imports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) totaled 443.1 million kilograms worth Rs 46.13 billion, while 1.863 million units of smartphones worth Rs 39.39 billion were brought into the country.
Gold imports stood at 1,354 kilograms valued at Rs 25.78 billion.
In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, Nepal had imported diesel worth Rs 102 billion amounting to 1.147 million kilolitres. Crude soybean oil imports had then reached Rs 81.89 billion for 539.5 million litres.
Likewise, petrol imports during the same period last year stood at Rs 53 billion for 612,000 kilolitres, while LPG imports amounted to Rs 51.81 billion for 456.8 million kilograms.
