KATHMANDU, July 19: On the stage where Nepathya once set a benchmark of its success, the musical band is now set to recreate history—12 years later.
Having earned popularity across diverse generations of Nepalis for over three and a half decades, the musical group will perform at the iconic Wembley Arena in the UK on the evening of August 9. It is the same stage where the band achieved remarkable success on August 3, 2013.
That moment was not just a band concert; for the first time, Nepali songs and music were presented with equal grandeur on an internationally prestigious stage. At that time, more than seven thousand spectators were present. Nepathya's concert still holds the record for the largest audience inside a closed auditorium to date.
“The impact of Wembley spread in such a way that it became much easier for us to secure stages in major cities around the world—those typically reserved for internationally renowned bands,” says Kiran Krishna Shrestha of Nepalaya, the band’s manager.
Nepathya to perform in London
Reflecting on that unforgettable evening, lead vocalist Amrit Gurung still becomes emotional. “Our audiences have always shown us love, but after Wembley, we felt a whole new level of recognition,” he said.
The atmosphere of that time still vividly lingers in Amrit’s memory. “The sound of that massive audience, the applause, the waving hands, and the lights from countless mobile phones made my legs so weak that I had to summon all my strength just to stand steady,” he added. “That moment stood before me like one of the biggest challenges of my life, and as soon as I gathered the courage, I immersed myself fully into the crowd.”
This time, Nepathya’s Wembley tour is being coordinated by the UK-based BSK Entertainment and Parcha Production.
A 14-member team from Nepal will accompany the band, including six band members and eight technical and management staff for the UK tour.
Amrit Gurung will be joined on stage by Dhurba Lama on drums, Subin Shakya on bass guitar, Niraj Gurung on guitar, Shanti Bahadur Rayamajhi on madal, and Dinesh Raj Regmi on keyboard.
With over an estimated 100,000 Nepalis residing in the UK, the concert aims to tap into their deep emotional connection with Nepali music. Nepathya considers this UK tour a top priority.
In the past three months, Nepathya has already completed a series of tours in Australia and the United States.
“This upcoming concert will mark another milestone in the journey of Nepali music in the UK,” said Dipendra Lama, one of the local organizers. “Over 7,000 tickets have already been sold, and we’re receiving an overwhelming number of inquiries.”
According to Dipendra, every possible effort is being made to facilitate the attendance of audiences living outside London.
Arrangements have been made for Wembley Arena audiences to purchase tickets directly online. For online booking, audiences can secure their seats through Nepathya’s official website: www.nepathya.com.np.
