KATHMANDU, Feb 4: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has urged consumers not to stockpile cooking gas unnecessarily, stating that the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is currently higher than market demand.
The NOC asked the public not to be misled by rumors circulating recently about a shortage of cooking gas in the market.
Cooking gas not in short supply, says NOC
NOC Managing Director Dr Chandika Prasad Bhatta said that Nepal requires around 90 LPG bullets—equivalent to approximately 114,000 cylinders—per day. From Saturday to Tuesday alone, a total of 365 gas bullets were loaded, he said.
On Tuesday, 163,300 LPG cylinders were imported from India. According to Bhatta, some of the bullets are still in transit and are expected to enter Nepal later today.
He also appealed to consumers through social media not to stock gas unnecessarily. Bhatta said that LPG supply will continue smoothly even during the election period.
In recent days, consumers have been seen queuing for long hours following rumors of a gas shortage.
