KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Printing of ballots for the upcoming House of Representatives election, scheduled for March 5, has officially begun. These ballots are for the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) electoral system.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari formally inaugurated the printing process by switching on the press machines at the Janak Education Materials Center printing press on Monday.
EC printing ballots to earlier design, citing time constraint
According to the Election Commission (EC), a total of 23,23,000 (23 million) ballots will be printed for the direct elections. The Commission aims to complete the printing within 15 days.
The EC is preparing to distribute all direct-election ballots to the respective constituencies by February 17. All logistical and transport arrangements have reportedly been completed.
The final list of candidates for direct elections has already been published. Meanwhile, the final list of candidates under the proportional representation system will be made public on February 3.
Earlier, the EC completed the printing of 28.3 million ballots for the proportional representation elections.
