KATHMANDU, April 25: As the government prepares to demolish encroached houses and sheds in the Thapathali area of Kathmandu, residents of the squatter settlement have begun urgently removing their belongings.

Earlier, police had requested residents via public announcements (miking) to relocate to safer places, stating that the settlement would be cleared between Saturday and Sunday.
The government has stated in a notice that it will begin necessary actions after identifying genuine landless people. It has also said that priority will be given to safely relocating persons with disabilities, children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the sick.
