KATHMANDU, April 17: The Supreme Court (SC) is continuing its hearing today on a case related to the leadership dispute within the Nepali Congress (NC).

The hearing, which began on Thursday, was kept “under consideration” after arguments could not be completed. During the preliminary hearing before a division bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Nripdhwoj Niroula, both sides began presenting their arguments, but proceedings remained incomplete due to time constraints. The case is scheduled to resume today (Friday).

The dispute is linked to an internal power struggle within the party. Tensions escalated after a special general convention held in January dissolved the Central Working Committee led by Sher Bahadur Deuba and elected a new committee under the leadership of Gagan Thapa. The old leadership moved the court after the Election Commission recognized the new committee.

Earlier, the SC had refused to issue an interim order and sought clarifications from both sides. With all responses now submitted, detailed hearings are underway.

The final verdict is expected to determine not only the party’s leadership structure but also the internal balance of power and its future political direction.
