KATHMANDU, Jan 3: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife have been arrested and taken out of the country following what he described as a “large-scale operation” by the United States.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump asserted that the operation was carried out in coordination with US law enforcement agencies. “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country,” he wrote, adding that further details would be provided at a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump later told The New York Times that the operation was an “excellent mission.” However, when asked whether congressional approval had been sought, he declined to comment, saying he would address the issue at the forthcoming press briefing.
There was no immediate independent confirmation of Trump’s claims from US authorities, the Venezuelan government or other official sources.
