UDAYAPUR, Feb 23: A passenger bus met with an accident on Monday afternoon in Andheri, Udaypur, a section of the Madan Bhandari Highway (Gaighat–Katari) considered a “frequent accident hotspot.”
The Ba 2 Kha 6275 Okhaldhunge Deluxe bus, traveling from Katari to Gaighat, went out of control and fell about 50 meters below the road, injuring 15 people, including the co-driver. Two of the injured—73-year-old Sommaya Tamang from Udaypurgadhi and 60-year-old Sommaya Pariyar from Katari—are in critical condition.

The injured were immediately rescued by the temporary police post at Sangamchok and local traffic police and sent to Gaighat District Hospital. The critically injured are receiving preliminary treatment and are being prepared for transfer to specialized facilities.
Among the other 13 injured receiving treatment at the district hospital are Monika Magar (28), Prakash Bhujel (40), Subas Nepali (28) – from Tapli Rural Municipality; Anil Chaudhary (35), Pabitra Shrestha (19), Dalbahadur Tamang (78), Prem Tamang (15), Sujan Tamang (15) – from Katari; Reshika Basnet (21), Reshma Basnet (20) – from Triyuga Municipality; and Tilak Basnet (17), Dipas Tamang (10) – from Udayapurgadhi.
The bus had a total of 16 occupants, including the driver, who survived unharmed. Driver Bikram Rai has been taken into custody for investigation by the District Police Office.
The road section from Sangamchok to Andheri has sharp downhill curves and is considered a recurring accident hotspot. According to police, vehicles often lose control here, particularly when traveling eastward along the downward twists.
