Canadian PM Carney apologizes to Trump over anti-tariff advertisement

SEOUL, Nov 2: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said he apologized to U.S. President Donald Trump over an anti-tariff advertisement released in Canada. The ad featured a quote from former US President Ronald Reagan.



In response to the ad last week, Trump had halted tariff talks with Canada and warned of an additional 10 percent duty on Canadian goods.

Speaking to reporters at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea on Saturday, Carney said he had already apologized to the U.S. president for the anti-tariff campaign.


The ad had used clips from a 1987 radio address by then-President Reagan, in which he said tariffs hurt the American economy.
