KATHMANDU, Feb 19: President of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said that he wants to make Nepal corruption-free within the next five years.
Speaking at the party’s manifesto detailed unveiling and interactive program titled “Our Commitment, Your Questions” held at Rastriya Sabha Griha in Kathmandu, President Thapa stated that corruption investigations would be conducted against leaders of any party dating back to 1990 (2047 BS).
Gagan Thapa to be NC spokesman
He said, “While the NC speaks of these commitments, it will not look at relationships or positions of individuals involved in corruption. Whoever it may be, whether the party president or a person holding any public office, if found guilty of corruption, they have no right to remain in public office.”
President Thapa said that services should now be citizen-centered rather than office-centered. He emphasized that services must be delivered within the specified timeframe.
He said that once the time required to deliver a service is specified, citizens should receive compensation if there is a delay. He added, “If it is said that a public service will be completed in one day, it must be completed within that day. If it is said that service will be provided within an hour, it must be delivered within that hour. For this, how can technology be used? Which existing laws need amendment? How can physical infrastructure be developed, and how can services be delivered directly to citizens at home?”
He said that the NC has systematically advanced plans for digital public services available 24/7, along with compensation mechanisms for delays in service delivery.
