KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Representatives of the World Hindu Federation, led by its President Asmita Bhandari, met Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal at the ministry on Thursday, drawing attention to issues related to peace and security in the religious sphere.
During the meeting, Home Minister Aryal emphasized that in a multicultural and multi-ethnic country like Nepal, no activities that could incite religious unrest would be tolerated. He warned that anyone found engaging in such acts would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Preserving religious and communal harmony
Aryal underscored the vital role of religious organizations in maintaining peace, harmony, and social stability. He said that safeguarding communal harmony requires mutual respect and acceptance of each other’s religious beliefs and practices, and that religious institutions can play a constructive role in promoting tolerance and social cohesion.
Minister Aryal also expressed concern over the spread of religious intolerance, misinformation, and misleading content through social media platforms. He urged citizens and religious groups alike to actively counter such narratives at the community level and to raise social awareness against false information.
Stressing the need for collective responsibility, Aryal called for coordinated efforts to foster social and religious tolerance, protect communal harmony, and ensure lasting peace and amity across society.
