KATHMANDU, March 20: Traffic congestion has increased across various parts of Kathmandu as rainfall accompanied by strong winds continues in the city.

The rain has disrupted vehicular movement, adding challenges to traffic management. According to SP Naresh Raj Subedi from the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, monitoring in areas including Koteshwor shows a rise in traffic jams due to the weather.

He said water accumulation on roads has further complicated vehicle movement, obstructing traffic flow and increasing the risk of accidents. Traffic police have urged drivers to remain cautious, avoid rushing, and ensure safe travel.

“Traffic personnel have been deployed across all areas, but vehicle pressure has increased due to the rain,” SP Subedi said. “Drivers must follow traffic rules and travel safely, as rushing can lead to accidents.”

Authorities have also warned of additional risks from strong winds, including falling trees, snapped electric and telephone wires, toppled poles, and damaged rooftops. The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution if travel is essential.

Traffic police identified major causes of accidents during rainfall as hurried driving, lane violations, and disregard for traffic signals. Water-filled potholes across Kathmandu roads have further heightened accident risks.

Waterlogging has been reported in areas such as Maitighar, Putalisadak, and Tinkune, worsening road conditions and traffic flow.
