BIRATNAGAR, Dec 15: CPN-UML leader and former Attorney General Agni Kharel has announced his candidacy for the post of secretary as an independent candidate.
Kharel was listed as a candidate for the Central Committee proposed by the KP Sharma Oli faction, which finalized 301 candidates including 19 office-bearers. Kharel stated that he will not contest as a Central Committee member and will contest independently for the secretary position instead.

He also opposed the practice of forming panels for office-bearer elections advocating for a clean, panel-free competition at least for the leadership positions. Kharel affirmed that he is ready to accept the outcome of the election and exercise his democratic right by choosing to contest the election.
