Bagmati Province decides to reduce the number of ministries from 14 to 8

KATHMANDU, May 5: The Bagmati Province government has decided to reduce the number of ministries to cut provincial government expenditure.



A meeting of the Council of Ministers of the province held on Tuesday decided to reduce the number of ministries. With the policy coming into effect, the province will have eight ministries in total, down from 14.

Prabhat Tamang, spokesperson of the provincial government, said a total of 50 offices related to the removed ministries will also be closed. Following the implementation, the number of offices of provincial government will come down to 148 from 198.


According to Tamang, the provincial government has proposed to operate the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers; the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law and Cooperatives; the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning; the Ministry of Drinking Water, Energy and Irrigation; the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development; the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forests and Environment; the Ministry of Health and Social Development, and the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Labor and Transport.
