KATHMANDU, May 19: The “Chief of Army Staff National Tennis Championship 2026” has officially begun in the capital, bringing together 218 players from 13 clubs to compete across 13 different events.
Organised by the Nepal Army with technical support from the Nepal Tennis Association, the tournament was inaugurated on Monday by the Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Pradeep Jung K.C.

According to organisers, the competition features events across multiple age categories and disciplines. The open category includes men’s and women’s singles and doubles, while the veteran categories include singles and doubles competitions for players above 35, 45, 55, 65, and singles for players above 70 years of age.
The championship will run until May 26, aiming to promote tennis at the national level, identify emerging talent, and further strengthen the country’s sporting culture.
Officials expressed confidence that the tournament will contribute significantly to the development of tennis in Nepal by encouraging wider participation and competitive exposure for players across age groups.
