Foreign Minister Khanal leaving for Mauritius to attend Indian Ocean Conference

KATHMANDU, April 8: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal is scheduled to leave for Mauritius today to attend the ninth Indian Ocean Conference (IOC), which begins tomorrow in Port Louis.



He is participating in the conference at the invitation of India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

The conference, themed “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance,” will be held on April 9 and 10. It is being organized by the India Foundation in collaboration with the Government of Mauritius.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Khanal will present Nepal’s national perspective at the conference. He is expected to highlight Nepal’s views on governance in the Indian Ocean region, the ecological linkages between mountains and oceans, and the importance of maritime connectivity for economic development.


During the visit, the minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from various countries. He will return home on April 12.
