Foreign Minister Sharma congratulates Bangladesh PM on election victory

Minister for Foreign Affairs Bala Nanda Sharma met the newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, on Tuesday evening, extending warm congratulations and delivering a message from his Nepali counterpart Sushila Karki.

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: Minister for Foreign Affairs Bala Nanda Sharma met the newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, on Tuesday evening, extending warm congratulations and delivering a message from his Nepali counterpart Sushila Karki.



In her message, Karki congratulated Rahman on his election and emphasised Nepal’s commitment to fostering mutual respect, partnership, and collaboration, aiming to further strengthen ties between the two nations for the benefit of people of both countries.

During the meeting, Sharma also congratulated Rahman on leading the Bangladesh Nationalist Party to a decisive victory in the national elections held on February 12, 2026, and commended the Bangladesh government for the smooth conduct of elections and a seamless democratic transition. Rahman expressed gratitude for Foreign Minister Shama’s presence at the oath-taking ceremony and highlighted the visit as a reflection of the goodwill and solidarity between the governments and people of Nepal and Bangladesh.


The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the enduring Nepal-Bangladesh partnership and exchanged views on advancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, connectivity, education, and tourism. Rahman also extended best wishes for Nepal’s upcoming parliamentary elections.


Prior to the meeting, Sharma attended the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Prime Minister and members of the Council of Ministers, administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the National Parliament (Jatiya Sangsad) campus.


Sharma also held talks with the Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, discussing key areas of bilateral cooperation.
