SARLAHI, Feb 21: Former Mayor of Balara Municipality, Abhay Kumar Singh, has joined the Nepali Congress (NC) amid shifting political alignments.
Singh, who had recently been associated with the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal (LSP), was formally welcomed into the party last night by NC President Gagan Kumar Thapa.

The event was held at Singh’s residence, where senior NC leaders, including former Sarlahi district president Surendra Prasad Singh, were also present.
Singh was elected mayor of Balara Municipality in the 2017 local elections from the then Rastriya Janata Party Nepal. In the 2022 local polls, following the party’s split, he contested for mayor from the LSP but was defeated by Ramashankar Kushwaha of the then Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre).
Along with Singh, former Ward Chair Sushil Mishra of Balara Municipality and several other leaders and cadres also joined the NC at the event.
Earlier, leaders, including Constituent Assembly member Kedar Nandan Chaudhary and Manish Mishra from Sarlahi Constituency-4, had entered the NC from the LSP, along with dozens of supporters.
In recent months, the NC appears to have intensified efforts to expand its organization in Sarlahi by inducting influential leaders from other parties.
