TEXAS, Oct 23: Fort Worth City in the state of Texas, USA has given special recognition to Deepawali, the second largest festival of Nepalis.
It is stated that the regular meeting of the Fort Worth City Council held on Tuesday recognised the Deepawali festival as a special cultural celebration of the city.
With the City Council's recognition, the Deepawali festival will, from now on, be celebrated every year as an official cultural festival of Fort Worth City.

In the meeting, Council Member Deborah Peoples, representing the city administration, proposed that Deepawali should be honoured as a symbol of the city's cultural diversity. Peoples stated that the proposal was supported by the attending council members.
Council member of District No. 5, Peoples, has handed over the related Certificate of Recognition to Mohan Gyawali, a leader of the Nepali community and the Building Standards Commissioner of Fort Worth City.
At the certificate handover programme, Port Worth City Mayor Mattie Parker described the Nepali community's festival of lights, Deepawali–Tihar, as significant from a religious, historical, and cultural perspective, stating that the city officially recognises this festival.
She said that Fort Worth City is an excellent example of diversity and cultural richness, and that the Nepali community has also made a special contribution to it.
Speaking on behalf of the Nepali community, the community leader Gyawali expressed gratitude to the city administration and stated that recognising the cultural festival of Nepalis has been a matter of pride for the entire Nepali community.
The programme was attended by Lal Bahadur Airi, General Manager of the Gorkhapatra Sansthan; Rajendra Wagle, President of Nepali Society Texas; and Suraj Bhandari, President of Nepal America Journalists Association, among others.
