KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Sudan Gurung, 37, a self-claimed Gen Z leader, has accused Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal of political maneuvering, claiming Aryal “played a game” to secure the powerful post.
In an interview with a national television channel, Gurung said he had wanted Mayor of Dharan Metropolitan City Harka Sampang to be appointed home minister and had even held one-on-one talks with him during the formation of the interim government. According to Gurung, both Sampang and other political actors, including Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, had agreed to the plan.

Gurung claimed that the proposal was already recommended to the prime minister, but alleged that Aryal intervened at the last moment and derailed the arrangement. He said Aryal ultimately clinched the post through behind-the-scenes maneuvering.
Accusing Aryal of being driven purely by ambition, Gurung alleged that the home minister assumed office not for governance, but for power.
