KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Singer and actor Prashant Tamang, who is also the winner of Indian Idol 3, has passed away at the age of 43 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The death was confirmed by Nepali filmmaker Rajesh Ghatani, whose family is related to the late Tamang. He confirmed the news quoting Tamang’s mother-in-law. She said Tamang died this morning at a hospital in New Delhi, India.

Born in Darjeeling to Rupa and Madan Tamang, Prashant studied at St. Robert School there. After his father’s untimely death in an accident, he left school and joined the Kolkata Police as a constable, taking over his father’s post. While serving in the police, Tamang auditioned for Indian Idol 3 in 2007 and went on to win the competition, gaining nationwide recognition.
Following his victory, Tamang released his debut album Dhanyavad (“Thank You”), featuring both Nepali and Hindi songs. In 2009, he began his acting career in Nepali cinema, with his first film Gorkha Paltan releasing in 2010.
Tamang was widely celebrated in Nepal and India for his singing talent and contribution to Nepali music and cinema.
