KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) last week inclined marginally by 0.89 points amid the mayhem seen in Nepali Congress, the country’s one of the prominent political parties.
In three-day trading, the secondary market opened at 2,640.54 points on Monday, while it closed at 2,641.43 points on Wednesday. The government declared Sunday and Thursday public holidays to mark Prithvi Jayanti and Maghe Sankranti, respectively.
With a decline of 5.54 points, the market opened for the weekdays at a negative note on Monday. On the consecutive two days, the market however inched up 4.90 points and 1.52 points, respectively.

Five out of 13 groups were the losers. These include microfinance with the highest fall of 0.92 percent, followed by banking, life insurance, investment, and hotels and tourism. Of the gainers, hydropower secured the highest gain of 0.99 percent of its index.
Regarding the individual companies, Radhi Bidyut Company with turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.12 billion stood as the topmost in the segment. The Three Star Hydropower Limited stood as the topmost gainer by adding 19.68 percent in its market value. Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited lost the highest of 6.14 percent of its market value.
The total turnover amount declined to 19.62 billion from Rs 28.69 billion of the previous week. The average turnover however increased to Rs 6.55 billion from Rs 5.73 billion.
In the review period, the market capitalization increased to Rs 4.435 trillion from Rs 4.433 trillion, securing capital gains of Rs 1.49 billion for the investors.
