MAHESHWOR CHAMLING RAI
UDAYAPUR, Feb 5: Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Balendra Shah (Balen) made a brief visit to Gaighat on Thursday morning that left locals describing his style as cinematic.
Although he was scheduled to arrive at 9:00 AM, Shah arrived a bit late. Arriving in a white car, he went straight to the RSP Election Campaign Office of constituency no 1 at PG Chowk on the Madan Bhandari Highway. Upon arrival, he rang a hanging bell at the office, waved to the crowd, and immediately got back into his car and left.

Supporters and locals had gathered along the roadside to catch a glimpse of Shah, while police and traffic management personnel were deployed for security. Media personnel and YouTubers surrounded him for photos and reactions. However, Shah did not speak, only greeting with folded hands and shaking hands with well-wishers.
Known for his quiet demeanor during campaign visits elsewhere, Shah maintained the same style in Udayapur — a quick arrival, bell-ringing gesture, hand wave and departure. Locals who had been anticipating a speech or interaction were left slightly disappointed.
Participants commented, “Such a charismatic leader, proposed as the country’s future prime minister, should at least share a few words about his plans. What a film-like style — arrives, rings the bell, waves, and leaves!”
Shah has been proposed by RSP as a future prime minister, contesting against former Prime Minister and UML chairman K.P. Sharma Oli, who has won consecutive terms from Jhapa constituency no 5. Locals expressed that while they welcomed his visit, they hoped for more engagement on his development plans and vision for the country.
