KATHMANDU, March 24: The new government to be formed under the leadership of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to recommend the President to convene the parliamentary session, as the current government has yet to do so despite 19 days passing since the elections.

With the RSP securing a majority in the House of Representatives, preparations are underway to form a new government led by Balendra (Balen) Shah, who is scheduled to take the oath of office as Prime Minister on March 27. Other cabinet members are also expected to be sworn in the same day.

As per legal provisions, the President summons a parliamentary session based on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. Officials indicate that the first Cabinet meeting of the new government is likely to make the recommendation to call the session.

Meanwhile, newly elected lawmakers are scheduled to take their oath on March 26. Prior to that, the senior-most member of the House, Arjun Narsingh KC, will be sworn in by President Ram Chandra Paudel on March 11, after which he will administer the oath to other members.

Following the oath-taking, the process to appoint the Prime Minister under Article 76(1) of the Constitution will formally proceed.
