KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Two top office-holders of the dissolved parliament, former Speaker Devraj Ghimire and former Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, are set to face each other in the March 5 election from Jhapa constituency–2.
Ghimire is contesting on a CPN-UML ticket, while Rana has entered the race representing the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Their face-off has drawn national attention, placing Jhapa–2 alongside Jhapa–5, where former prime minister KP Sharma Oli is set to compete against former Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah (Balen).

Ghimire, who enjoys strong backing from UML chair Oli, became Speaker following the 2022 elections.
Rana was elected Deputy Speaker from the then Maoist–RSP alliance, but later faced an attempt by the Nepali Congress–UML coalition government to remove her through a no-confidence motion.
Once seated on the same parliamentary podium as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the two leaders are now campaigning door to door in Jhapa–2, each seeking to defeat the other in the contest.
