KATHMANDU, April 22: Less than a month after the formation of a near two-thirds majority government led by Balen Shah, two ministers have stepped down amid separate controversies.
Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister Deepak Kumar Sah was dismissed earlier following allegations that he misused his position to facilitate his wife’s involvement in a previously inactive health insurance-related body. Acting on the recommendation of Rabi Lamichhane, the prime minister removed Sah just 14 days after his appointment.
Following his dismissal, new appointments were made, with Gauri Kumari taking charge as Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, and Ramji Yadav as Labour Minister on March 27.

In a fresh development on Wednesday, Home Minister Sudan Gurung resigned from his post, adding to the government’s early challenges. Gurung announced his resignation through a social media statement, citing public concerns over his share-related dealings.
He said he took the allegations seriously and stepped down to allow for a fair investigation without any conflict of interest. Referring to growing public calls for good governance, transparency, and accountability, Gurung stated that public officials must uphold integrity and that leadership should remain answerable.
The back-to-back exit of ministers within weeks of the government’s formation has raised questions about stability and accountability in the new administration.
