KATHMANDU, Aug 27: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed sorrow over the loss of life and widespread damage caused by the devastating floods in Nepal and China on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Guterres expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. He also expressed solidarity with all people affected by the floods.
The UN in Nepal is supporting the government-led response, including assessing the scale of the disaster and providing immediate assistance where needed.

UN teams and humanitarian partners are mobilizing essential supplies and personnel to support affected communities, Guterres said.
He also commended emergency responders working to save lives and reiterated that the United Nations stands ready to provide further assistance.
