POKHARA, Feb 1: The 25th edition of the Aaha–Rara Pokhara Gold Cup will be held from February 10 to February 22, marking a historic first as matches will be played under floodlights.
Organisers said at a press conference on Sunday that 12 teams will compete in this year’s tournament. The prize money has also been increased, with the champions set to receive Rs 1.401 million, while the runners-up will take home Rs 701,000.
Aaha-Rara Gold Cup begins tomorrow
To promote Pokhara Tourism Year 2025–26, the organisers will install temporary floodlights at the venue, allowing matches to be played in the evening and enhancing the overall spectator experience.
The participating teams include Nepal Police Club, Church Boys United, Manang Marsyangdi Club, Nepal APF Club, Planning Boys United, Jawalakhel Youth Club, Thunderbolt North United Club of Sikkim (India), Machhindra Football Club, Gorkha International Football Club of Hong Kong, one team from India, Abha Football Club of Uzbekistan, and hosts Sahara Club Pokhara.
Organisers said the introduction of floodlit matches, along with the participation of international teams, is expected to further raise the profile and appeal of one of Nepal’s most popular football tournaments.
