According to the chief customs officer at the BCO, Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, the revenue collection was encouraging during the first quarter, while it slumped in the last month. Gyawali attributed the slowdown in customs revenue to impacts of Gen Z movement, Chhath festival and floods, among others.
In the last month alone, the revenue collection was Rs 6.30 billion less than the projected amount. One of the main border points for the country’s foreign trade collected revenue of only Rs 17.33 billion against the target set at Rs 23.63 billion during the period.
According to the BCO records, revenue collection stood at Rs 18.44 billion in the first month, followed by Rs 20.73 billion and Rs 19.09 billion in the consecutive two months of the current FY.
