KATHMANDU, Feb 24: At a time when the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) is drawing closer, candidates in Kathmandu constituency-9 are busy in door-to-door campaigns to attract voters to their side. The HoR election is scheduled for March 5.
Candidates and their party cadres have been aggressively involved in election publicity campaigns.
They have been educating voters on their major election agenda, commitment and the issues mentioned in their election manifestos. But most of the voters have not yet decided whom they will vote for.
The voters are saying that they would give their vote to the experienced, development-loving, trustworthy and disciplined candidates this time.
Nanu Maiya Banstola from the Nepali Congress (NC), Dr Ajay Kranti Shakya from the CPN- UML, Radha Krishna Maharjan from the Nepali Communist Party, and Dol Prasad Sharma from the Rastriya Swatantra Party are contesting the March 5 election from this constituency. There will be major competition among the candidates of these four candidates.
Aryal is the former minister and senior Chairperson of the RSP while Maharjan of the NCP has an identity of an old leftist leader.

Similarly, a PhD degree holder in Buddhist philosophy, UML's Shakya is former minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Bagmati Province as well as elected to province assembly member from Kathmandu-9 (A) in 2074 BS election.
Likewise, starting political career from student life, NC's Banstola is now a central committee member. She was also a central committee member of the Nepal Woman Association.
Special priority has been given to education, health, employment, good governance and economic development in the election manifestoes of these parties.
A total of 26 candidates have filed their candidacies in Kathmandu-9—18 from political parties and eight as independent candidates. Of them, four are women and 22 are men, said election officer Menuka Ghimire.
There is only one woman candidate from political parties while three are independent candidates.
NC candidate Bastola said exploration of agricultural entrepreneurship, an address to the issues of landless squatters, mitigation of climate change impacts, and the conservation of community forests are his election agenda. She pledged to make maximum efforts to get these agenda enforced and play a crucial role in enacting laws and acts required for the nation if voters here entrusted her with such responsibilities.
UML candidate Shakya said he is confident that this time voters here judge his past deliveries that include his contribution to the systematic and scientific urbanization, cultural renaissance and conservation of heritages, thus deciding to send him to the HoR as their representative.
"I am already a well-tested figure among the voters," he said, promising to deliver in the areas of local-level innovations with the youths engagement and entrepreneurship opportunities if voters pick him up as their representative through the March 5 voting.
NCP's Maharjan described politics as a pure social service and he as the electoral candidate is responsible for working in the areas of social justice, social empowerment and economic transformation in the constituency. "I was born in Kathmandu, I grew up here. I am committed to internalizing the concerns and needs of the areas and making interventions to address them."
RSP candidate Aryal said he has personally assessed that voters are largely encouraged by the party's policies, programmes and vision this time. He promised to deliver holistic development, quality education, accessible healthcare facilities and job opportunities in the constituency if he is selected as the people's representative in the lower house. Digitization of government offices and promoting transparency and public accountability of them is the focus of the party, he said.
Chandragiri Hills, Kalu Pande Mausoleum, Indra Daha (pond) are among those historic, cultural and touristic attractions that fall under the constituency.
RSS
