PARSA, June 15: A case has been registered against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman and former Deputy Prime Minister Rabi Lamichhane in Parsa on charges of misappropriating cooperative funds. He is currently under police remand in Bhairahawa jail in connection with the Supreme Cooperative Fraud case of Rupandehi.

A case has been registered against Lamichhane on charges of misappropriating Rs 57.4 million pf the fund saved by the depositors of the Sano Paila Cooperative. In the case, 29 people, including Lamichhane, have been made defendants, claiming that Rs 1.32 billion was misappropriated by the group. There are about 800 depositors of Sano Paila Cooperative, which was operated by absconding fugitive GB Rai.
Although the police submitted the investigation report to the District Government Attorney's Office, Parsa, on April 27, it took time to register the case. During the investigation, it was found that Rai had siphoned Rs 13.7 million pf the cooperative funds to Nature Hub International, Rs 18.5 million to Nature Nest Pvt Ltd and Rs 10.1 million to SpringWood Real Estate.
