KATHMANDU, Feb 20: With just two weeks left before the March 5 House of Representatives election, independent candidate Mahabir Pun from Myagdi has stepped up his campaign, reaching voters across the constituency with a clear message: honesty and action over promises.
The constituency, made up of five rural municipalities and one municipality, has 86,397 registered voters, with women outnumbering men. The 72-year-old Pun, campaigning under the triangle symbol, stressed that he has made no grand promises but intends to focus on education, health, science, technology, and regional development if elected.

“When asking for votes, I urge voters to choose candidates who are honest and committed to real work,” Pun told Republica. “I am listening to the people to understand their actual needs rather than making flashy promises.”
Pun also called on the youth and new political parties to unite. “Fighting among ourselves benefits no one. Collaboration will advance the country, while conflicts only set it back,” he said.
A native of Myagdi, Pun emphasized local development and framed this election as crucial for the nation’s future. “This is a chance to shape the country. If we fail to support young and new leaders, old rivalries will continue and the nation will suffer,” he warned.
He highlighted his past achievements in social and economic development, including running an agricultural tools factory in Birgunj, funded by proceeds from selling his autobiography across the country.
In Myagdi’s single parliamentary constituency, 11 candidates are in the fray, making it a fiercely competitive race.
